Mr. Khaled Aref El-Danaf, Principal
I have been working in the field of education since 1989. I worked in Lebanon until August 2007, after which I moved to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to work at Global International School in Jeddah.
In Lebanon, I held various posts: English teacher, English coordinator, and head of English department--in both national and international high schools (one of which was the Lebanese American School). I taught intensive English courses at a technical school that was owned and directed by my father, a British graduate in linguistics, and at two branches of the Lebanese University (Faculty of Economic Sciences and Business Administration; Faculty of Medical Sciences). I was also appointed Representative and Regional Coordinator of the Association of Teachers of English in Lebanon (ATEL) for three consecutive years.

At Global International School, here in Jeddah, I started in 2007 as an English teacher and SAT instructor for students applying for the American High School Diploma. In 2008, I was both English teacher and coordinator. In the second term of the school year 2010-2011, I was appointed Principal of the Boys’ Section. I should confess that GIS has enriched my professional experience, given me great opportunities to reveal my abilities, and rewarded my efforts.
Throughout my long history in the educational field, I have attended various educational workshops, conferences and activities in Lebanon (mainly with the Lebanese Ministry of Education, Lebanese University, and ATEL), Saudi Arabia (mainly with the Saudi Ministry of Education and AdvancED), and Egypt (NESA Conference). I myself have also given workshops and seminars on various educational topics to both students and teachers.
Above all, I have had Four experiences with school accreditation, three of which were in Jeddah as an Internal Review Team Expert at Al-Kon (Global) International School (2008 & 2013) and Al-Kon Al-Motawara Inernational School (2010). The third was as an External Review Team Member when I was invited by AdvancED to join a team that visited and recommended accreditation to a school in Abha, KSA (December, 2012).
About the British System at GIS
Global International School is well known for the outstanding results our students achieve on standardized tests. In the IGCSE and GCE examinations, for example, we already have many students who have ranked first across Jeddah, across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and even across the whole world. This has given our school an honorable reputation and a great credit among those who seek quality education in Jeddah. Every year, a considerable number of new students apply for admission at Global International School, and we have been doing our best to meet the community’s requirements and high expectations.
We have been expanding our campus at a rate of one building every couple of years. The British Curriculum building is a recently built one for boys in Grades 7 and 8 and in Grades 9 to 12 IG. It was ready with the start of the academic year 2012-2013. Currently, the building consists of three floors, and it contains a large reception area, 20 occupied classrooms, 2 standby classrooms, 2 staff rooms, 5 administrative offices, 2 test halls, 2 computer labs, one science lab, a bookstore, a library, a photocopy room, a praying area, a canteen, and a large indoor playground. An audio-visual room and a cafeteria are under construction. The building is highly equipped. Every classroom has a projector, and most of the classrooms are equipped with a smart board along with the white board. Each of the vast computer labs has 35 desktops, and the science lab is one of the best in Jeddah. The photocopy room has a heavy-duty photocopier. The playground is well ventilated and air-conditioned. Above all, every corner in the building has access to internet.
Safety is a major concern at Global International School. This building is designed to meet high safety standards. Every room on the ground floor has an emergency exit, and the building has 4 gates on two streets. The building also has two indoor staircases with two gates that lead to the roof. Fire boxes are more than enough, and fire extinguishers are everywhere.
In a word, like all the departments at GIS, this is a typical school department at all levels.
